Information
Falla Barri d'Onda is one of Burriana's historic Fallas commissions. Founded in 1930, it has always been closely connected to the Camí d'Onda neighbourhood and its people. Generation after generation, its members have kept alive a way of experiencing the Fallas based on community, tradition, culture, solidarity and, above all, the people who are part of the commission.
Since its beginnings, Barri d'Onda has witnessed the evolution of the Fallas of Burriana and has played an active role in the main events that make up the city's Fallas calendar. The planting of the monuments, presentations, parades, the May Crosses, theatre in Valencian, fallas booklets, cultural activities and gatherings all form part of a year-round activity that extends far beyond the main festivities in March.
The Fallas monument has always been one of the fundamental elements of our history. Many artists and projects have left their mark on Barri d'Onda and on the Fallas of Burriana. Among them, José Pascual Ibáñez «Pepet» holds a special place. One of the great figures of Burriana's Fallas art, in 1961 he created his first complete falla as an artist for Barri d'Onda. Just one year later, he once again built a monument for the commission that would become an important milestone in his career.
But a falla is much more than the monuments that are planted every March. Barri d'Onda is also its adult and children's commissions, its representatives, the families who have been part of the casal over the years and all those people who, in one way or another, have helped to build its history. It means work throughout the year, dinners, meetings, preparations, culture, celebration, friendship and countless shared moments.
Valencian and Burriana culture also play an important role in our way of understanding the Fallas. Over the years, the commission has taken part in cultural initiatives, Valencian-language theatre and the production of the traditional falla booklet, understood not only as an accompaniment to the monument but also as a means of promoting culture, recovering stories, preserving the memory of the festival and giving a voice to different aspects of our society.
Another of the values of which we are particularly proud is solidarity. For Falla Barri d'Onda, being part of the festival also means being involved in the society around us, working together and helping wherever possible. This way of understanding the Fallas led us to be recognised as the first and only Solidarity Falla in the entire province of Castellón, a distinction we are proud to hold and which also carries the responsibility of ensuring that solidarity remains an essential part of our identity.
The participation of our youngest members is equally important. The children's commission ensures that our traditions, customs and way of experiencing the Fallas are passed from one generation to the next, allowing Barri d'Onda to continue growing without losing its roots.
Our casal is the commission's meeting place throughout the year. It is where activities are prepared, decisions are made, projects are born and, above all, where many of the moments that give meaning to being part of a falla are shared.
Since 1930, many generations have been part of Barri d'Onda. The people, the monuments and the way of experiencing the festival have changed, but the values that define us remain: our sense of neighbourhood, culture, tradition, solidarity and our desire to share the Fallas with everyone who wishes to be part of them.
Because behind every monument that eventually turns to ashes, there are stories, people and memories that remain part of who we are.
We are neighbourhood. We are celebration. We are culture. We are solidarity.
We are Falla Barri d'Onda.
